LOCAL JOB PLACEMENT PROGRAMS?

Migration is Canada is accomplished best through Education in Canada, rather than based on local education and job placement programs, as is explained in The Gleaner Article, ‘Pricey Nursing Programmes Hit Snag – Hinders Overseas Job Placements,’published on September 12, 2010 (Please read the story in the ”Articles” Section).

In fact, it is NOT recommended to participate in programmes involving training in Jamaica for employment in Canada.  The Gleaner Article, ‘Suspended!’ describes the problems with the Canadian Nurses Training programes in Jamaica, which often do NOT lead to successful migration (Please read the story in the ”Articles” Section).

In any case, it should always be kept in mind that NO ONE can GUARANTEE a job in Canada to a foreign national residing outside of Canada.  This includes both employment agencies in Jamaica and even in Canada! However, the international students (and their accompanying spouses) are present in Canada to obtain jobs with their open work permits!

In order to obtain a Work Permit, an employer must give individuals in Canada a chance to apply.  No one can offer work to someone in Jamaica if someone present in Canada can do the job.  As such, it is possible, but NOT easy to obtain a work permit, in general.  AVOID Employment agencies that demand high fees upfront BEFORE the job in Canada is obtained!!

FEDERAL SKILLED WORKER PROGRAM (Permanent Residence)

By definition, MOST Jamaicans would NOT be qualified for the Federal Skilled Worker Program because it is limited only to certain Demand Occupations (Please see Below.)

Furthermore, Applications in the Federal Skilled Worker category by residents of Jamaica now take much longer due to UNCONTROLLED OVER-SUBSCRIPTION of applicants in this program.  In other words, the significant increase in Jamaicans wishing to apply to become Permanent Residents directly from Jamaica has caused a substantial increase in the processing time.

In addition, there appears to be an intended cut in the number of immigrants to Canada, which may significantly affect the number of Skilled Workers, as blogged about on February 16, 2011 (Please read the story in the ”Articles” Section).

Students are given priority and they may Apply for Permanent Residence/Citizenship while in  Canada after their studies!  Therefore, Skilled Workers should Allow me to help them get to Canada faster!
